Kilmarnock Life

Land of 1,000 Supermarkets
After having spent more time in Kilmarnock, I completely agree to Martin's comments regarding the place (see last post). I noticed just how many supermarkets are in Kilmarnock - Morrison's, Tesco, Lidl etc etc - the list goes on. Every supermarket chain in the world seems to have a representative here. This is a good thing if you like supermarkets, bad if you don't. Personally I'm indifferent, as will most likely use the Morrison's across the road from my pal's flat.
To its credit, Kilmarnock has some good facilities such as an Odeon, Power League soccer etc. It's not all doom and gloom.

Amateur Evolution Soccer 4
I played football again at the Power League, and this time there were enough for 6 a side. I've been trying to improve each week and I think this week was a slight improvement, certainly in terms of stamina. My control was good I think, and I made one or two decent passes, most notably a devastating through ball which led to a goal. There were a couple of times when I dribbled the ball past 2-3 players but the end product was lacking. I scored one goal, which was a bit of a tap-in, but still a goal. I wasn't quite as good as one or two of the veterans, who often ran circles round defences, scored some decent solo goals and displayed some excellent skill, but I think I at least made enough of a contribution to make it worthwhile. My spell in goal was pretty good, only conceding a single goal I think and making a few saves.
It was good fun as usual, and my team won (no idea the score, something like 50-48).
Anyway, what's important is the taking part and I find that even making a decent pass which leads to a goal alone can make it worthwhile.

Beginner Evolution Badminton 1
Played badminton with my sister up in Glasgow, which was also a lot of fun.

I like this weekly blog as the amount of time that goes into describing the performance at football ( probably 2 hours out of 168 per week ) is astonishing ... I like it though, don't mis-quote me!!

I would rate Kilmarnock above Prestwick I suppose but not above Ayr .... for obvious football related reasoning and also because I just plain don't like the place anyway ... but it does have facilities.

Once watched 3 neds outside Kilmarnock MacDonalds taking turns to open up their "friend's" milkshake and spit huge chunks of flem into it while he was taking a leak behind a hedge. He shook off the excess pee pee and arrived back onto the scene and wolfed down his milkshake savouring every drop; clearly thinking that everyone was laughing because he was so "mental" for pissing behind a hedge in the middle of Kilmarnock in broad daylight and not because he was drinking his pals spit.

Part of me thinks that story represents justice, the other part makes me think Killie scum.

Thats me done.

Funny story about the neds! Killie scum indeed.

At the moment you can read about football or SQL Server Reporting Services in this blog - not much else going on just now. Which would you prefer?

I dunno, I've made an effort to like Ayr, Prestwick and Kilmarnock and it just ain't happening for me. After having lived in the city it just feels like a very big step down. Call me a snob, but that's just the way I feel. Moving back here was a bit of a mistake.

Christ don't start me on Scotland's largest city again!

More scum per square mile than anywhere in the land.

At least Glasgow's large enough that most of the scum are kept separate from "civilised" society, in more run-down areas. E.g. in snobbier places like the west end you can often forget they even exist.

In smaller towns like Ayr and Killie, they are more closely integrated with general society and are more noticeable. That's my opinion anyway.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, however, thats the reason I don't like the place. I refer you to my first ever comment on your new blog ... I'm paraphrasing ...... 'Glasgow is pretentious'.

I'm also not as against Glasgow as I make out either, its a decent place though but I wouldn't fancy living there, I like living in a smaller place and keeping these places at arms length .. I can still use all of Glasgow's facilities if I wish.

It does annoys me, though, that people from Glasgow believe their own hype .. It aint that good! In Scotland alone Edinburgh is such a nicer place and 10 times the buzz about the place in my opinion. And I've also been to London, if you are interested in a buzz and a happening place then London is to Glasgow what Arsenal are to Ayr Utd.

Rant Part II over.

I agree, Edinburgh looks nice. However, rumour has it that in London nobody smiles and you can get blown up in public transport.

Why am I the only commentator on here, does no one else read it!?

Thousands of people read this blog worldwide. It's just that nobody else has the guts to identify themselves when leaving a comment. Thus all those anonymous commenters have given up their shite patter and gone home with their anonymous tails between their anonymous legs.

Forgot to say re Glasgow being pretentious: yes it's true in some places, but is it not like that anywhere you go? I mean, look at all the boy racers in Ayr, with their souped-up Vauxhall Novas etc with triple exhausts, spoilers, alloy wheels, go-faster stripes saying "look at me - aren't I the business" and thinking they rule the world.
Wherever there are people, there are pretentions.

I would say boy racers are pretty much 'what you see is what you get'. Not so much pretentious.

We'll see who is right on the day of Judgement!

Each to their own. There's no right or wrong answer. It all comes down to our individual attitude / experiences. Kille scum.
